Question:

Does anyone have any tips on preforming a Shakespeare monologue?

I need to preform a monologue from Shakespeare's quot;Romeo and Julietquot;. It is Juliet and her nurse talking after they hear Tybalt has been killed. Does anyone have tips on preforming Shakespeare or maybe this part specifically? (I'll be doing the part of Juliet)

Answer:

Use the punctuation as a guide to the rhythm and ideas of the scene. Suit the action to the word, the word to the action. In other words do physically what the words suggest you are doing.
Shakespeare is heightened emotion, heightened language. Enunciate, finish the ends of words and lines. When the English do Shakespeare they speak so fast they are almost unintelligble to our ears, but you hear every word. Crisp, clean. A great book on working on Shakespeare (and other styles) is An Actor Prepares by Cicely Berry.
