I'm not sure if it works on carpet but I do know it works on fabric--try this , it can't hurt--on fabric water removes water stains by this process : use a very damp rag to feather the edge of the stain working from the center out , then dry from outer edge towards center while continuing to use a dryer rag to feather edge.On fabric you would use a warm iron however on a carpet I would try a hair dryer to avoid shine marks on the carpet.

since when does water stain carpet im not being mean but water dont stain.
I would make a mixture of water and ammonia (1/2 water and1/2 ammonia) spray it on the stain and scrub it with a stiff cleaning brush. Open the window for a few minutes for ventilation.
Maybe the Carpet Cleaner products would help.. Something like Resolve.
