Does anyone miss the days when they had open fire hydrants in Brooklyn?
Every fire alarm systems are different. There are a few companies that I know that do make fire alarms and the ones I can think of are Wheelock Simplex, Edwards, and Faraday. Next time you are in the building, look at the pull station some pull stations has the name of the alarm system. If not check the control panel for the alarm system, which is usually located in the office or near the main exit. The name of the alarm company should be on the control panel which is where you can test the alarms out and check to see if they are working properly. Not all fire alarm systems has voice recordings. Back when I was in school all the fire alarm systems were a loud hard buzzing sound, and some alarms were quite loud. Also not all fire alarm systems has a siren sound for the alarms.
