Question:

Do fire departments really open hydrants to play in during the summer?

I've heard people talking about that before but does the FD really even open fire hydrants and put a sprinkler cap on it just for people to play in? Cuz honestly I've never seen that happen anywhere except for where people do it illegally themselves.

Answer:

So pletely irrelevant. So are the smoke detectors. How does the lack of smoke detectors entitle you to still live there?
Surprise, mine went off at 3 am night before last. Tripped the whole system. It turned out that the oldest sensor in the system died. It was only 16 years old. Guess they don't last as long as I do. After removal and checking the batteries and when the unit was reinstalled the system alarmed again. The new unit is about $40, not bad for life protection.
No, you are all dangerously wrong. There are two types of fire alarms, one that looks for particulates in the air and one that looks for fire and flames. The particulate one has a small dab of americium, which is a radioactive substance, in a small vial inside. It shoots a beam of ions to a sensor, which gives an alarm if smoke (particulates) is blocking the beam. THE CONSTANT BEEPING MEANS THAT THE AMERICIUM IS DEPLETED. AMERICIUM ONLY LASTS ABOUT TEN YEARS. You need to get a new fire alarm ASAP, or you will not know if there is a fire. Jeez, people. Read the owner's manual on your fire alarms sometime!
Take off the cover and keep hold of the red button to reset it!
