I am wondering if the power is rectified on a electric corded weed eater/ lawn trimmer. I took the motor apart and cleaned the armature and am installing new carbon brushes, but I did not see a rectifier in the handle by the connector. Maybe I just couldn't find it or there's not one there. Also, when I replace the carbon brushes, are they specific to AC and DC or are they universal type?
There is a good chance it is a universal motor that will run on both, if it has a commutator, like an electric drill. But that would be 120V DC ( or 240V, same as the AC) not 12V. I don't think brushes care one way or the other.
No , an electric trimmer that runs on 120 does not have a dc motor. It is an ac motor, and you can find universal brushes online , or your local hardware store might have them if they are good. Good luck
