When you took ownership, did you also check the box for Replace owner on subcontainers and objects? I would start with your main Profile folder (C:UsersUsername) and reset all permissions. Right click the Profile folder, click Properties. Click the Security tab, then click the Advanced button Click the Owner tab Click the Edit button Select your user name as the Owner. Check the box for Replace owner on subcontainers and objects Click the Apply button. Click OK on any errors that appear. OK back to the Desktop, then go back in, selecting the Permissions tab this time. Click the Change permissions button Make sure System, Administrators (not Administrator), and your user account have full control for This folder, subfolders, and files. All three should show as Not Inherited. If they show as inherited, Add them, giving them Full Control permission, then delete the ones that show as inherited. The HomeUsers group should have Special permissions for This folder only. Add it if it's missing, and then check it's permissions: Highlight HomeUsers and click Edit, and make sure it only has these allow permissions: Traverse folder / execute file List folder / read data Read attributes Read extended attributes Read permissions Click OK Uncheck Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent Check Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object OK back to the desktop, and let it apply permissions. If you get any errors just keep clicking OK. Now check your Desktop folder permissions, it should show Full Control for System, Administrators, and your account, and show it's inherited from your profile folder. It should not show any other accounts. If that doesn't work, create a new Computer Administrator account, see if it works properly, and can access files in folders on it's desktop. Yours may be corrupted. If it works, copy the files to the new user account, then you can delete this one.
