I was just wandering.....me and my friend use the same fabric softener and laundry detergent but hers always smell ALOT stronger than mine..she has a front loader and i have a top loader.
I just bought a fron t loader and the smell is stronger, why i have no idea maybe it is the temperature adjustment.
Well, there are a lot of missing factors here. For example, do you both use the same amount of detergent, same water (soft or hard), etc...In general front loaders get clothes cleaner by design.
Front loading washers use less water, so the concentration of softener is higher, thus smelling stronger. To keep both machines (especially the front loader) fresh smelling keep the lid/door open when not in use. Also once a month run an empty load with hot water with cascade crystals, then let it run the full cycle.
Your friend is probably using more detergent, fabric softener or dryer sheets than you. My clothes always smell stronger than my friends even though I use less sometimes.. or hers will smell stronger because she adds so many dryer sheets in the dryer. I have a top loader and my friend has a front loader lol. Her front loader kind of smells like mildew though for some reason.
