A kart suit is made to resist abrasion where as a racing or driving suit is made to be fire retardant. A kart suit will almost always be cheaper, you can pick up a karting suit from a reputable brand like Sparco or Alpinestars for $250 all day long. A driving suit from those same companies can easily run into the thousands.
Even if there is no fire in it a chimney can still act like a chimney, drawing warm air up it, warm air that you have paid to heat. I found that out for myself once when I was cleaning the chimney for my wood stove. It was summer, the stove was not running, the openings on the stove were almost closed, and the draft coming up the chimney was strong enough to ruffle my hair if I put my face right over the chimney opening. Warm air tends to rise. If your house is being heated, you will lose a good deal of that heat up a chimney if it's left open.
