Question:

Drilled vs. slotted rotors, ceramic vs. metallic pads?

I‘m looking to upgrade my brakes- not anything extreme, just rotors and pads. For the rotors, I know drilled ones don‘t last as long because they tend to develop more cracks. But someone told me that slotted rotors really only work on race cars, where the slot serves to wipe off the glaze that forms on the pad under extreme braking conditions. Is this true? Would slotted rotors help at all under normal street conditions? And pads I‘ve read a couple places that metallic pads work better than ceramic pads- any truth to that? Thanks for your help!
