Question:

Drillin through ceramic tile?

A friend I are joining our talents with some of my already made jewelry accessories to make a small business. Yesterday we were doing decoupage ceramic tiles and we tried drilling through one, which took forever, and I never got through. I used many of the heads that came with the rotary tool my dad is letting me usenone worked better than the others.!? So we ending up just hot gluing ribbon to the back to string them. But what can I do about the drill situation?!

Answer:

there is a set of drill bit made specially for glass, ceramic and the such. you drill at lower speeds but not too slow that the bit get stuck, if possible use water to cool down the drill bit so it doesn't overheat and wear down faster. I did some work on a big glass jar, and I submerged the glass in a small container. just keep the tool out from touching the water. or use a spray bottle and aim for the tip of the brill bit, spray enough to keep it cool. AVOID spraying the Dremel tool or drill---water and electricity don't mix. lol if there is a harbor freight store near you go and pick a set for like $5-10. if not then home depot and lowes sell them but more expensive. it has sizes from 1/8 to 1/4 IIRC. there are other sizes though. just keep a steady hand and keep the drill bit straight(perpendicular to job) when drilling, let the weight of the drill do most of the work, if you use a small rotary tool like a Dremel then apply a little force just as any regular job, but just a bit. gl
you need a bit made for tile otherwise you will be drilling forever ,go to a hardwhare store and get a drillbit made for tile you'll notice the bit for tile tile looks a little different from the ones you been useing it should have a special head on it to get through that tile . good luck ladies )
