Hi gang, I live in the Pacific NW, USAIt gets pretty cold here in the winter time and right now I am wearing a hat in the house in order to keep the heat downIt got below zero last night and it is holdingI want to know what you think what would be a good alternative heat source - pellet stove, or wood stove? I have forced air gas as a furnace, but it can run pretty high in the winterWhat is your experience on the best solution?Thanks always, Karen
Tyler has some good ideasBut let me add somethings to consider: It all comes down to the cost of the fuel I live in northern maryland and it hasn't gotten as cold as what you say(below ZERO ? !!!! WHOA !!! ALREADY !!!) We have not seen below 30 yetMy hubby and I do the wood stove thing we have a 4 acre piece of ground and there's lots of Black Locust and oak here(but we burn most anything except pine)It's a lot of work and we burn about 2 cords a yearSo we don't pay for the woodI don't know if you have a cheap source of wood supplyso it's hard to make a recommendationI kinda thought gas was getting cheaper lately Have you tried to shore up the insulation? fix the windowsadd insulation/foam in the attic? and foam inside the exterior walls around the electrical outlets? (you can buy that great stuff and attach a flexible tube to the end of their tube and get into some tight spaces !) LD
Well, I'm not the brightest ship on the water, I've done alot from putting stainless steel metal into a microwave, then grabbing it, to waxing my brother in the head with a hot cookie sheet, to setting off the fire alarm while making eggsBut the story that takes the cake One time I was making cookies with my babysitter, and as we opened the oven, it started to sparkThe logical thing would be to turn off the oven right? Well, I threw BUCKETS of water into the oven because I thought it was on fire, and then I told my brother to tell the neighbor our house was on fireEveryone was flipping out, and my neighbor, who i don't even know, ran into our house, and turned off the ovenThe end result was an oven with roughly two inches of water at the bottomAnd, unfortunately the oven got injured pretty badman, that was not my finest hour.
