Question:

Electrical questionElectrical heater on top of wires.?

Hello,I am having my rental studio apartment renovatedThe worker has made several mistakes:but one i am unsure about, if it's acceptable or not.he put the wiring of the heater between the heater and the wallusually i see the wiring above or below or beside the heaterthat is, the chord from the heater goes out to the left or right above or below and directly to the wallIn this case he put the wiring directly in the middle behind the heaterIn addition he didn't even cover the wiring-he left a gaping hole with open wiresbut even with a plastic box over it, i question if the chord which would be tightly squeezed between heater and wall for it's path to the wall and then the part where the wires are in the wall would fare well if directly stuck to heater(1500 watts-some sort of thermal heater that keeps the heat well-not ceramic but something like that)thanks for your answers.

Answer:

It is not acceptable to leave out open wires, or a gaping hole to the wiresIt is also a problem if the wires are in front of high heat from the heaterThe heat will damage and can degrade the wires enough to destroy the insulationThis can lead to a short circuit, blown fuse/tripped circuit breakers, smoke, or a electrical fireIt is a bad idea to jimmy rig things to do things they are not designed to doAll reputable devices are tesed by independent labratories, well beyond regular wear and tear or usageAnd they do not fail or cause problemsbut when you jimmy rig things the testing is void You need someone who can inspect the system to see if it is safe or not Do not wait until after there is a emergency or serious problemYour life may depend on itEspecially if it catches fire when your sleeping.
