Do speakers use alot of electricity? i have an altec lansing 2.1 speakers in my computer. do they use alot of electricity?
Depending on their power (WATT value) the electricity consumption is low or high. You can read on the back side of speakers to find how much electricity use (WATT value). But for normal speakers it is not high. more info about WATT:
Most of the electricity usage comes from your amp, not from the speakers. They are fed with audio energy at the level set by the amp via the volume control. Basically, figuring it as PE2/R is one way although audio shops have some neat instruments for monitoring power levels. Your computer is feeding a low level signal to the amp in the speaker system and those are only 31 watts RMS. SPL is 97 dB which is pretty good. That 19 watt subwoofer must make the room shake.
