Bad news for me, signed contract to sell house at the bottom price, and than the boiler cracked. It's winter .. and this must be done asap. I have an old weil mc clain but have a good price to install new Slant Fin unit but I am not familiar with this make and am concerned to do this. I can not afford anything, much less a top of the line model, but do not want to have a new boiler with bad reputation. Any feedback?
I'd go with a new piece of equipment. Yes, costly up front BUT, imagine if you fixed the crack and then you have another thing go wrong with the oil fired steam boiler? You'll end up paying much more than doing it right the first time.
If you are selling your house I don't understand why you are concerned about the brand of boiler. Not that it makes any difference, my answer is the same. All manufacturers have a top of the line and bottom of the line, and that is more critical for your selection. It is more important to get a reputable installer who will give you a written warranty for both labor and materials. The factory warranty on the boiler does not cover labor.
