Question:

Engagement Ring in Rock Crystal Quartz ?

Hello obviously im getting engaged, My girlfriend and I have been looking for a unique beautiful ring for some time now and we found the perfect ring. The company will not offer artificial stones I know we sound cheap but we are both poor med students on a tight budget. Obviously we would like a diamond, but my girlfriend would rather have this ring than any other it has a .73 carrot princess centerstone they offer in Rock Crystal Quartz. It will drop the price 3,000 dollars and put it in our price range. It will still have .36 carrots in diamond accents. I guess the question is has anyone ever seen this gemstone in a ring ? Does it look good and sparkle or does it just look like a piece of glass ? I can't find any reviews for this type of stone so i have no idea if it will look ok for a few years until we upgrade it to a diamond. Does anyone have any advice ?

Answer:

That is not the right answer, you take your 3.20g times your molar mass to cancel the grams unit, then you times that by Avogadro s number to cancel moles and then you take 2 oxygen atoms over 1 molecule of SiO2 and your final answer for Oxygen atoms is 6.41x10^22
Quartz is SiO? Atomic mass Si = 28.085 O? = 2 * 15.999 = 31.998 m = 28.085 + 31.998 m = 60.083g/mol 3.90/60.083 = 0.06491020755moles of quartz Avagadro's number = 6.022x10?? Number of quartz molecules 6.022x10?? * 0.0649 = 3.908x10?? 2 oxygen atoms per molecule O atoms = (2)*3.908x10?? O atoms = 7.816x10?? <-----
