How often should I flush my engine and transmission fluid tank?Should I tune-up my car once a year?
The coolant needs to be replaced every 2 to three years. When this is done, it will not hurt to flush it. The transmission is a tough one as a manual transmission can go further between service then an automatic. In both of these cases the fluid should be drained and refilled (on an automatic replace the filter). Engine oil can last for at least a year if synthetic oils are used. I just don't feel comfortable not changing the filter for that long. As for tune ups, while not as important now as when there were plugs and points, should be done every couple of years. But to know how often to do these things get the service recommendations from the manufacture and not from some shade tree mechanic like me.
