Okay, so I'm watching Kick-*** (It won't let me type it), and there are metal detectors outside the school?! What? Is that what all American schools are like? So you can't take knives or anything to school? And, does it work? Are there less slashings and stuff?Oh andis as* a swear word in America? I'm confused? It isn't, like, worth being censored in England?
can to limit the time spent playing these games. This is easier said than done. Like the anorexic, someone hooked on video games becomes very sneaky, and an otherwise honest kid will begin to lie. So, a couple of added steps are worth considering. (And, as always, pass these ideas through your value system to determine what might work for you. Also let me know of any innovative interventions or ideas you come up with - you have lots of company in trying to deal with this problem.) Some suggestions: Put the computer he uses in a public space in the house. That is, don't let him be sneaky at home. Talk to someone at school, jsust to make sure he isn't using school computers to play games. Talk to the parents of his friends, just to make sure he doesn't switch venues. Think about counseling, and not for getting him to stop playing video games. The counseling needs to focus on the issues in his life that he is avoiding by losing himself in the video games. The compulsion to play the games will diminish as he successfully begins to address these other issues.
