I recently bought a house and just turned on the heat. It was working fine for about two weeks then it quit. I called one repair guy and he said I needed a whole new unit. The second Guy said I didn't need a new unit, maybe a part or two (I think he said control board or motor blower?) Its not working now and I don't know what to do. Is there anything I can try to fix it myself before i call another repair man?thank you for your response.
Your question can't be answered with the information you provided. What kind of heating system do you have? Gas? Oil? Electric? Even with knowing what kind of system it is, a person would need to have some symptoms in order to even attempt a diagnosis, and making a diagnosis my means of this forum would be difficult, at best. I am a heating technician, and I would be glad to help if I can, but I need more info.
What if the system doesn't have a pilot light? Or what if the pilot light has electronic ignition? Some systems use a more efficient system that will light the pilot light ONLY when it is going to heat. Some electronic ignition systems use a spark, others use a hot element. Assuming you have spark ignition, does the spark come on when you turn the furnace on? If so then the ignition system is working.
