Question:

Estimated horsepower increase for Audi Allroad cold air intake?

Recently I‘ve been looking to add a cold air intake system to my Allroad. The one I have been looking at is a system with a 3 inch diameter tubing all around. The ad said that I‘d get an estimated: 10 HP upgrade. Which I feel as though that is low balling the Allroad. I feel as though with a better intake system the stock Allroad would be in the 30 HP range.Any ideas/has anyone done this to their Allroad?

Answer:

cold air intake does practically nothing for your engine. you will get a tiny horsepower increase, if any at all. save your money and buy a turbo or exhaust system.
Air intakes are NOT a waste of money. Idk who told you that, but he doesn't know cars. They brings is cooler air which is more dense thus a higher explosion which equal more power. You could also add headers, exhaust, throttle body spacer and if you want to really add hp you can get a turbo or supercharger. Intakes are not a waste of money though. If you get one make sure where you live it doesn't rain alot if so you should get an air intake that is smaller which is called a short ram intake. The pipe is smaller. This prevent water from being sucked up into your engine.
Really its a waste of money. You may experience a higher peak HP at the flywheel if you were to do an engine dyno, but a chassis dyno wil probably show none to less peak HP. Your car comes factory with a cold air intake system. The Germans have already tuned your engine to your exhaust and intake. Your best bet for power is to change out your rubber intake piping for a stiffer composite or even hard lines and get a chip. The chip is going to be a real power adder especially to your engine. The 2.7 twin turbo engine is de-tuned from the factory for emissions purposes and installing a chip will unleash its full potential.
