Answer:

Youll just end up sweating if you wear to much.
Wear a layer of microfleece between your base layer and the jacketThat should keep you nice and warmI was snowboarding when it was 6 degrees and that was enough to keep me warmActually started sweating a little after the 1st run.
I've ridden Mount Hood and Bachelor, and it does get pretty chilly, but that problem is MUCH better solved by wearing layersIt is much better to wear 6 thin layers than to wear a t shirt and a huge, bulky, expensive jacketI usually wear a long sleeve t-shirt, a t shirt, then a thin sweater, then my jacketYou can remove and add them to compensate for temperature changesBut your main concern as a beginner is waterproofingYou will fall often, so waterproof pants and jackets are absolutely necessaryAnything cotton will get you soaked, then freeze you to death as it freezes late in the dayThat Volcom jacket will be just fine.
I usually stick to eating high fiber foods, which is really good for your bodyBreakfast- have either a serving of high fiber cereal(or bran) like Kashi Go Lean or Mini Wheats, stuff that has about 5 grams of fiberOr you can drink a fruit smoothies or eat a fruit saladDon't eat fruit pastries, come on it's most likely high frutose corn syrup in thereLunch-Have either fiber yogurt with a serving of almonds, peanuts or flaxseedsOr a salad or fruit saladDinner-Have a veggie burger(or any other type of veggie meat) with a salad and maybe a baked sweet patatoDessert-Anything with fruit, but make sure your not just putting mindless sugar or high frutose corn syrup in it.
