Question:

Exhaust system 1998 silverado?

So I have a 1998 chevy silverado 5.7 4wdI want to get dual exhaust system on itI want a low deep growl but not screaming where it is annoying. I have heard people say do a catback on it. I don‘t really know how a catback works like is it just a new cat and piped straight back or is it a new cat and new muffler obviously aftermarket that I should do. I need some suggestions

Answer:

You may call a person 'wet blanket' if that person refuses to join other people in an enjoyable activity or attempts to stop others enjoying themselves!
Perfect example of a wet blanketthe girl with the 'big girl blouse' comment. Lol
This Site Might Help You. RE: What does the expression wet blanket mean? thanks!
No reason to go dual exhaust. They are stupid 60's/70's technology when 3 pipe wasn't available. Kind of like running skinny whitewall tires.they died out because they sucked. If you want the look (still stupid, but its your vehicle) then get a single in/dual outlet muffler for your truck, and have an exhaust shop install it. A single replacement aftermarket muffler will be cheaper and more likely to stay together (most exhaust work done today is far less reliable than factory) than if you replace everything cat back or whatever. Realize you are going to get nothing in gains from this swap, except increased noise in the cab. Edit: And any talk of dual exhaust with dual converters is idiotic. Not only is it pointless with the performance of stock exhaust today, it's federally illegal to add or subtract from what THAT vehicle came with, so if there is one converter, that's all you get. Both you and/or the shop are liable for a $10,000 fine should you get caught. Not likely anyone ever checks, but go ahead and call a shop and tell them you want true dual exhaust on your truck. Guarantee they will say they can't do it. Might say something different in person, but definitely not on the phone.
Cat back is from the Catalytic Converters back to the tailpipe, the link that Tim gave you is a good one but it looks like its only for single exhaust. To do a true dual exhaust you cant do a catback, then the price goes up because it will most likely have to be custom built at a muffler shop, with two new catalytic converters instead of just the one. You can build from the one catalytic converter but your really not gaining much except one more muffler and one more tailpipe, your gain isn't worth the cost. If your just made out of money go and build from the manifold back, otherwise I would just put one flowmaster on the single that you have now and just run with it. That's what I did on my chevy 5.7 and it still sounds pretty good.
