This Site Might Help You. RE: What differences would I see if i got an aftermarket cat back exhaust system? i have a stock exhaust system right now, but i know the manufacturers make unnecessary bends and curves to reduce noise or something. would i see much difference in performance or noise if i got an aftermarket cat back exhaust? such as magna flow or something?
Best sound is subjective. I really like the sound and volume of Magnaflow mufflers, deep tone and the volume is, to me, lower than V8 cars that are stock. Flowmaster mufflers sound nice, but are a bit too loud for me. I'd also have a muffler shop make you an exhaust system from the resonator back since it'll be much cheaper than buying an off the shelf system.
Simply answered yes. If your car is boosted, go with a 3in, saves you down the road. If your car isn't turbo or supercharged, go with a 2.5 exhaust it will sound louder (becareful with brands) and gives you more torque and mid range power. If you looking to get more power without breaking the bank, get a new header and a high flow catalytic converter or better yet a straight pipe (which may be illegal in certain areas).
