I'm 18 years old now, and I need to learn about the fundamentals of banking. Is there a site that can easily explain all aspects of banking there I need to know?My family seems to enjoy having power over my money and bank savings, and I want to know how I can shift these things.
I would really just either go into a local bank and start asking questions, or if you can't go in person, call. There are always representatives available to help you learn about checkings, savings, and loans. Go into several banks and ask lots of questions. Don't be afraid of sounding stupid. You're only 18, you're not supposed to know.
I recommend a local or regional bank instead of a huge nationwide bank. They're easier to develop a working relationship with they can make exceptions to the rules set by the home office. They live and work where you live and work. Wells Fargo is the LAST place I would go.
I suggest going into the branch and speaking with an account representative. I've banked with Wells Fargo for over 10 years now and have had very good experiences with them. They can sit down with you and explore all of your options.
