Question:

For my 3rd party radio do i NEED to get a wiring harness?

i know what all the wires are on the back of the radio and I know what each wire does from my jeep. All I can see is that the wiring harness is for those who don't know what wire is what. So why spend like 5-10 dollars ordering and getting a wiring harness when I can do it in like 30 minutes. Am I right or am I missing something.

Answer:

The wiring harness adapter keeps the vehicle wiring stock, so that the factory stereo can be reinstalled, and you can make the harness for your aftermarket stereo on the bench, which is significantly easier than wiring in the vehicle in the shorter wires that are there. I have installed many car stereos, and have dealt with both, far preferring to use a factory adapter kit.
If you never intend on removing the radio, go ahead. Otherwise, get the harness.
