Question:

Ford Ranger Air Intake System?

So I‘ve been thinking to replace my stock air intake system, which has a cheap filter as is, with something to improve air flow. Being that increased air flow and cooler air are two goals I want to reach in replacing my current setup, I‘m looking at several possible scenarios to make this upgrade that follow below. I‘m hoping to not spend much. All I‘m looking for is a bit of advice, or feedback, based on these following possibilities.Firstly, I could do the minimum and replace current crappy panel filter with a KN panel filter.Second choice, I could upgrade to a round filter which hypothetically will increase air flow. This would mean I‘d do some jimmy rigging. Third, upgrade to an cold air intake. This option is frowned upon in my eyes, because I don‘t want to spend $175+ for an upgrade that costs a 15th the price to manufacture. I‘d like to hear what you‘ve got to say, or upgrades that you‘ve made to your intake system that have been helpful for your truck.

Answer:

Get the high flow filter. The cold air intake isn't worth it unless you can get more air out and burn more fuel
cold air intakes don't work on injected engines plus if you use the oiled filter type you wreck the maf sensor, there is nothing you can do to an intake to improve performance if it was possible the makers would fit it as standard, the ecu is mapped so colder air will not change that , they only work with carburetors where a denser air mass will make a difference
Probably, depending on the vehicle. Modern stick shifts are fully synchronized.
