Ford Transmission 1990 5.0 v8?

iv got a bronco and i want to buy a more performance or quicker transmission. The bronco and the Mustang have the exact same engine, but i dont know about the transmission being the same.if they are differnt, HOW!!!or is it better to go through my transmission and get new gears and a new set upMine is an auto. the mustang is a 5 speedDONT say any thing about prices please. iv got both of them alredy priced, i just dont know anything about transmissions.

If you want more performance, you'd be better off by beefing up your current tranny with heavier clutches and modified shift points. You would have to put a lot of time into fabrication and adaptation with the Mustang transmission. Besides the obvious clutch/pressure plate and bellhousing, examples of things you'd have to do to swap the manual Mustang transmission into the automatic Bronco include: 1) Adapt the transfer case to the Mustang transmission. This includes mating the t-case to the transmission, probably shortening plus splining the output shaft on the tranny, plus an adapter sleeve. (Not impossible to do, but would be lots of work). 2) Installing the clutch pedal setup into the Bronco. Easiest way would be to get setup off similar year manual equipped pickup or Bronco. Also, I think the Mustang is a cable operated clutch, while the Bronco had a hydraulic clutch. SO some sort of adaptation would have to made for proper clutch operation. 3) Lengthen/Shorten driveshafts. 4) Modify transfer case shifter rod lengths, cut floor for shifter. Lengthen Mustang shifter (unless you like leaning over to shift) and ETC. The most difficult point would be adapting the T-case to the Mustang 5-speed. You would'nt gain any off road capability, more likely loose low speed performance (like crawling). FYI the Mazda built M5OD 5-speed truck transmissions were a factory option for Bronco's and F-150's and would be an easier swap. You might gain a little shift speed but it won't ever be a race car.
I believe the Bronco utilizes the E4OD unit, which, is very different from car sourced units. It's built for truck torque and reliability, not performance or economy. Anything more, my expertise is limited.
if going from automatic to standard they will be different as in gear ratio so rear end will need to be worked on also will have to do major work to get them to interchange as in drive shaft,getting the linkage assembly set up cutting holes for the linkage pedals and so forth and mounting for cross member
