i fixed my ford explorer transmission completely a couple a months ago, and it started having problems with the second gear. since the mechanic found oil in the radiator, he says it?s the cause of it. then i take it to two other mechanics who find out that the transmission oil is clean as well as the engines?s, plus the transmission has been leaking a lot oil here and there, it came to a point that i had to put more oil to it because it leaked almost all of it. what are my options since it is still within the time of the warranty. is he trying to get off the hook ? is it possible to have oily water in the radiator but not in the transmission or engine help please
Sounds like he is trying to get off the hook. The first clue is that the transmission mechanic said he found oil in the radiator and is blaming your transmission trouble on that, clearly implying that the transmission cooler which is routed through the radiator is leaking, yet the other two mechanics say that your transmission oil (as well as the engine oil) is clean. If there is oil in the radiator and if it is indeed transmission fluid then your transmission fluid could not possibly be clean. The pressurized transmission fluid while the engine is running would force transmission fluid into your radiator but then after your engine has reached normal operating temperature and you shut the engine off, the transmission fluid which runs through the transmission cooler in the radiator is no longer under pressure but the radiator having reached normal operating temperature is still under pressure and that would force coolant then into the transmission via the transmission cooler in the radiator which he implied is leaking, in which case the transmission fluid would be a pinkish milky color. The second clue is that the transmission is leaking a lot oil even after being completely fixed a couple months ago. You say the transmission work is still under warranty and that is well and good but I think you might want to give some serious thought to trusting that same transmission mechanic to do that work. I think you might want to consider taking that tranny to an ATRA (Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association) member shop who employs ASE certified transmission technicians and then maybe try to recover some of your additional costs from the shop which did the first repair work but has incorrectly blamed your most recent transmission problem now on a leaking transmission cooler in the radiator.
