Gold wouldn't naturaly fuse with quartz. Quartz is a rock, like limestone. It is made up of many elements, so probably what you saw was a piece of gold that melted onto the side of a quartz rock. So no. It is not a compound, but an ore.
It would be an ore--gold veins in quartz.
