Question:

Front license plate bracket?

I currently live in a state that doesn't require a front plate, but I'm moving to a state that does. My front bumper doesn't have a bracket to hold the license plate, or a place to zip tie it to. Can I just put the front plate up in the windshield? If not, is that something I have to pay to have put on?

Answer:

Any handy person would be able to drill the two small holes in your bumper that you need to mount a license plate.
In Ohio, you must display in plain view on the front and rear of the motor vehicle So you can put the plate in the front windshield. Standing it up is really the only way to get it close to plain view though.
Without a SPECIFIC state, we can't look of the ACTUAL law. As a rule, placing the plate in the window is NOT allowed. You usually don't need an actual bracket, but you are generally required to mount the front plate on or near the center of the front bumper. A pair of cheap screws should do the trick. You can always ask the local police department to clarify. They should now what they would cite you for. Kebert: Ohio law states: All license plates shall be securely fastened so as not to swing, and shall not be covered by any material that obstructs their visibility. It is IMPOSSIBLE to securely fasten the plate in the front window without violating the laws against obscuring the window. See ORC 4513.24.
You will have to pay to put a proper bracket in the correct place.
You can purchase the bracket at a junkyard and either install it yourself or have someone else (perhaps a dealer) install it for you. The cost is yours to pay.
