Hi anyone know much about fitting a fuel cell system to a diesel car in the uk. Am lloking at tfuelcell .uk
You must mean by taking out the diesel engine, or using the vehicle with diesel engine unused? Fuel cell technology would be instead of diesel, because thus far we have too much weight in hydrogen storage to consider adding it as a power boost for a diesel. If you are planning to use LNG as your hydrogen source, rather than storing the hydrogen, you could lower the amount of LNG needed compared with using it in the diesel. But even LNG tanks are heavy. Plan to use bigger tires. This is not a low cost conversion. One would ordinarily do it with only a new vehicle, probably one sold without diesel or gas engine.
I suspect that many vehicles could have a make over but what will no doubt happen is that you will trade in your gas version for the fuel cell version. They will no doubt give you a good trade in on a new model car and in turn take your old vehicle and do make overs and sell them on the secondary market. The same for diesel trucks. It seems like that will be the most cost-saving way to go and make a used cars available to people at a better price point than brand new.
