Question:

Fuses in amp keep blowing?

I have a 1000 watt insignia amp trying to power 2 12 sony xplods but everytime i connect power to the amp the fuses blow in it. I also have a fuse by the battery that hasnt blown. Everything is right and it should work, I have gone throught it like 100 times and I cant understand why the fuses are blowing. Someone said insignia is garbage and i should just replace the amp, is this true?

Answer:

Ok, first off, the guy who said to use larger size fuse is wrong, and i pray he does not reproduce and infect the world with that kind of moronic thinking. The fuses are there for a reason, if you feel like frying your components, then by all means, put a higher fuse in there. Since they are blowing as soon as you connect power, I would guess you have a direct short to ground, which means somewhere, a wire is touching a ground where it shouldn't, this is a connection with little to no resistance, and it will be before any load in the circuit. Find it, fix it, then put the fuse in. A little trick I use wire up a test light to be able to stick in the fuse slot. Once you do this, there will be a load in the circuit, and you will not damage anything. Follow the line and find where it is shorting, if the light goes out, you know you just found where your short was and removed it, cover or replace exposed wire, replace the fuse, and be on your way. I know you said your ground is fine.and I'm sure it is. A ground wire being shorted to ground is no problem at all. You have a short in your power wire, somewhere between the fuse and the load. Its basics really, went here is a direct short to ground, then you will smoke every wire between the short and the battery, unless you have a fuse or circuit breaker, in which case, it will be between the fuse and the load.
probably have you tried a larger sized fuse?
trace all wiring leading to the amp. sounds like you have a short. if its not in your wiring then it must be the amp. i have never heard of nor encountered that brand of product ever. always be safe and purchase wisely. steer clear from products that are not known in the business.
