Question:

Gas mileage due to new transmission?

I drive a 96 jeep cherokee and I‘m getting worse gas mileage after I got a new transmission put in it. Is this possible?

Answer:

It is most definitely possible. If the transmission installed was not identical to the original, you can get better gas mileage with less acceleration, worse gas mileage with better acceleration, or flat out bad performance altogether. When I had my transmission replaced, I noticed that it was shifting at higher RPMs than the original, but this didn't noticeably affect my fuel economy. If you are very worried, I would ask your mechanic what gear ratio the new transmission is in comparison to the old transmission.
It could be the transmission, however there are a lot of variables in this. They range anywhere from Bad switch to a vacuum leak. to who installed the tranny .
