I want a manual transmission to go with my Chevy 350 that I‘m rebuilding.I, without knowing anything about transmission brands and which is better etc, am looking for a good manual transmission and if not too exspensive with overdrive. The first transmission I ever looked at (which was 20 minutes before I asked this) was the nv3500 which was what I was looking for: five speed, manual, overdrive, but I have no clue if it good brand of something.Suggestions?

So this is a car, correct? Kind of important to know, only know because I saw your other post that it's an El Camino. For a manual transmission that will hold up to a decent 350, you are pretty much looking at the 6 speed from the early 90's Camaro's and Corvette's. If this is a bone stock, low performance 350, then just about anything GM used in a CAR will work and hold up. An early Muncie 4 speed will work, as will a Saginaw, T5, etc. But they won't hold up to serious use. The later 6 speed is FAR stronger than any of those. As to the NV3500, it won't work in your car. It's a truck transmission, and was the light duty truck transmission at that. The NV4500 was the heavy duty truck transmission, and will also not fit. Look at any of the A/G-body manual transmission swaps found online to get ideas of what transmissions to use. A-body was 1978-1981, G-body was 1982-1988. Realize for the intents of transmission application, your El Camino is the same as the Regal, Cutlass, Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, and Malibu. Since there are more of those cars out there, you will find more swaps involving manual transmissions about those cars, than your El Camino. But since the important parts are the same as your El Camino (steering column clutch pedals, front frame portion, engines used, etc) the info from those will work for you.
