Question:

got a question about getting a exhaust for a motorcycle?

k im getting my ninja 250 this month, and a guy told me to get a exhaust so my bike sounds louder and cars can notice me more (like two brothers, or yosh), and i was wondering will this hamper my bikes capabilities or increase it?? as well as will the exhaust really make a difference if a car notices me or not??

Answer:

You should tell the boss. Demand your copper pipes be put back in for free. You should have the copper pipesQ! Damn theiving workers.
He didnt take enough to be worth your time. Probably a pound or two, worth maybe 7 bucks.
No and No The exhaust note will sound a bit better but its still only a 250 so it will sound like a loud sewing machine instead of a quiet one. Brain dead morons in cars will still run over you no matter how loud your exhaust is.
With some work a new exhaust system can make a difference to the performance of your bike –?often with jetting (carbs) or remapping (injection) and air intake. There is a benefit just from having a lighter weight exhaust – providing the fuelling isn’t affected, however the cheapest peformance mod is to change the sprockets. Cars will not necessarily notice you because of a loud exhaust, because soundwaves do not travel that way, pedestrians on the other hand will notice you – not always for the better. If you want to improve your safety, you have to take responsibility, do not rely on other road users, work on your observation and anticipation –?they will make you a better rider too.
Aftermarket exhaust systems are the biggest selling motorcycle accessory. And it's only because people want their bikes louder. (Well, -guys- want their bikes to be louder). It has nothing to do with performance or fuel economy or anything like that. Or even with safety. They just want to be louder. Believe me, the anonymous Japanese gentleman who designed the stock exhaust system on your bike knew what he was doing. Plus he was aware of US Dept. of Transportation noise requirements. Guys who like loud bikes say 'Loud pipes save lives'. But this isn't true at all. In the US something like 20 people are killed every year by stepping in front of railroad trains. The trains make a lot of noise, but the noise doesn't go out front, it goes to the sides and back. In front is where you need people to see (or hear) you. Loud pipes just cheese off everyone in the neighborhood.
