Question:

Hard Water Deposits in Shower Pipes?

I have an older house. We haven‘t used the upstairs shower in several months and have discovered that hard water has reduced the water flow to a trickle. The sink and toilet are fine, as is the rest of the house. How can I remove the hard water deposits and free up my shower again? I don‘t want to get involved in a major repiping project . . .The pipes are copper.

Answer:

Never really thought about that
Could the clog just be in the shower head? not the pipes? If so, unscrew the head and soak it in vinegar for about an hour. Then brush it with an old toothbrush and see if it helps. You may have to repeat the process a few times to clear it.
if the pipes are copper it is likely that the problem is in the shower head not in the pipes. take the shower head off then engage the shower and see if you have a problem if no problem then either replace the shgower head with a new one or try soaking in a solution of lime away of similar product (available at most hardware stores) If problem is not with shower head then problem is likely with a piece of trash stuck in the shower/ tub diverter valve assembly which if you have skills can be removed trash located removed then reassembled or replaced if old and any seals worn. If you dont have skill set then call local plumber (after you verify its not the shower head itself)
