I'm actually very green and have been most of my lifeI know exactly where you're coming fromI see the same thing around me all the timeAnd it's completely frustrating and sickeningBut what you have to remember is that you can't control those peopleYou can help spread the wordFor example if the bagger at the grocery store asks if plastic is all right before I've handed my reusable bags over I say rather loudly that plastic isn't ok, hoping that other people will hear that and maybe think about it for next timeYou just need to continue doing what is rightIt can seem hard, but all those little things really start to add upAnd for those of you who seem to think it's some kind of scam, WTF are you smoking!!?? Get your heads out of your butts and look around!!
I am as green as I can beI cycle as much as I can to work and have switched to a more fuel efficient carI use a heat pump for heating rather than a log burner (living in New Zealand we have almost 100% hydroelectric generation so electricity is the cleaner option for home heating hereObviously, it isn't necessarily the best option in other countries.) Our city council set up a recycling system, which we use correctlyIf you make a tiny contribution, and if a million other people make a tiny contribution, that all adds up to a big differenceIt might not reverse the damage we have caused to our biosphere, but it's a startThe only way we can reverse the changes that we have wrought as a species would be to kill off about 2/3 of the global population and who wants to be responsible for that?
I went totally solar, in 1999It wasn't some political statement, it was because my new home was too far to get electric, (without $30000)It is so viable, I don't know why everyone doesn't get off the titI would never go backI do other things, not small gestures like using a bag at the grocery, thats made of plastic fabricComposting everything and actually using it to grow food for instanceI live way out in the country, and most of what people do ,saying they are green is not relevantCoal is burned to charge electric carsHybrid cars take huge energy to make, and the metals in the batteries are an eviro hazardI have to have a truckSome of it makes a difference, some of it is just hypeAnd why is it always some big corporation that winds up making the next big solution? Most of it is a way to separate you from your money.

I'm green in ways that save me money I won't buy a hybrid; my 18 year old truck gets better mileage than some hybrids do now I won't buy a energy star clothes dryer; my clothes line cost $2 and uses zero electricity while doing just as good a job I won't buy organic foods; the stuff I grow in my garden tastes much better, is fresher and doesn't have to be shipped across the country or ocean My backpack is much easier to carry on a bike than a canvas bag of groceries When recycling is free and trash is $1.50/bag it makes sense to recycle what one can Picking up a computer and monitor someone threw out was much cheaper than buying a new one- not as fast, but who cares when it's free?
