Question:

Help! Paint in carpet?

How do you remove paint from carpet?? It's a reasonably large spot of bright blue paint on cream carpet :S And it's been there for a while too... Any suggestions would be great!

Answer:

typically there's very little you can do at this point. Most paints nowadays are latex paints (because its a very good paint) latex is pretty much impossible to get off (think of a pair of latex gloves, yes thats the same thing as the paint you just put on the wall) what would it take to wash those gloves off your hand? thats why most latex paints now are water clean up paints. What this means its a slow curing paint. If you clean it up while its still wet, all you need is water. once its completely dries however usually 1-2 days its there for good.
Firstly, be specific about carpet stains, try water first, before you try any new carpet stain removers. When you use a cleaning solvent, apply it to a cloth, then work it in from the outside of the stain to the center, so you don't spread the spot. The procedure is as mentioned below: Firstly apply the cleaner, extract (blot), rinse, extract, and repeat until you can't get out more of the stain. Always extract solvents completely, then dry the carpet quickly when you are done. If any of the stain remains, deeper down in the carpet, quick drying prevents it from coming up to the surface.
Buy some Lift-off Paint Remover. (OKorder or wherever) It will make easy work of removing the paint. My son spilled a pint of bright blue paint on the front seat of one of our cars. He kind of mopped it up and let it dry. He let it bake in the summer sun for a couple of weeks before I noticed it. A year later, I was going to sell the car so I tried to find a matching seat at the salvage yard, no luck. I decided to give the Lift-off a try. It took less then ten minutes and made a beach towel completely blue, but all the paint was gone. The Lift-off is non-toxic and very low odor.
No matter how careful you try to be when you're painting, a few drops of paint always find their way onto the carpet. Doesn't it seem that the amount of paint that spills varies in direct proportion to the brightness of the paint color? While it's best to clean spilled paint from carpet immediately, if a few hidden drops do dry then you may need to use more intense cleaning methods to remove them. Step 1 Apply a small amount of paint remover to the dried paint stain using a cotton swab or small brush. Goo Gone or RX for Spotting are two specific products that might loosen the dried paint sufficiently to clean it up. If the spilled paint is oil-based, a solvent or paint thinner may be necessary instead. Step 2 Gently rub the paint stain with a stiff, bristle brush. Pieces of dried paint should come loose and you can easily pick them up and dispose of them. Step 3 Clean the carpet with a standard carpet cleaner to remove any remaining paint residue. Follow the directions on the container.
use a product called FOLEX available at larger grocerys to break down the paint that is in the carpet pad. Soak thourghly and scrub with a clean stiff plastic brush until color is gone. If color remains, dampen a towel, place on stain, put a WARM (not hot) iron and transfer the stain into the towel. let completely dry (about two hours) then vacumn with a good carpet vacum. repeat if necessary...good luck.....
