Question:

High-fiber products in Chile?

The doctor ordered me to eat more fiber for digestive problems, but I'm going to be in Chile for the next few months and I'm not too familiar with the food hereMy host family eats a ton of white rice and white bread, so I was hoping someone could tell me where to find bran muffins, whole grains, or any kind of high-fiber foodsI am in Valparaiso/Vina del Mar.

Answer:

Any supermarket should have these sorts of things and moreI haven't gone to Valparaíso in a lot of time, so this only applies to Vi?a del MarThere are plenty of food stores in Quillota Street between Arlegui and Valparaíso street, a couple streets from the Bus StationThere's also a Santa Isabel supermarket nearby in Arlegui streetThe largest supermarket of Vi?a del Mar is Hiper Lider which is located in the corner of Quince Norte and Alessandri street, near the Marina Arauco mall and the northern end of the cityIf you can't find there what you want, try going to Valparaíso, as Vi?a del Mar has more restaurants and other businesses open for tourists than anything else.
As long as the cake is not filled with a custard filling and frosted with a 7 Minute type frosting it should freeze fineFollow the wonderful directions given here.
I froze my wedding cake and ate a piece at the one year markIt's fine, it was just a little stale (this was for tradition)Just go to a bakery and ask if you can have a cardboard cake box the size you needA week should be fineJust pull it out the night before.
Yes you can definitely freeze a cakeIn order to do so, you'll have to wrap it up tightlyTry to find tupperware big enough to fit the cake in since it's already frosted (I found round tupperware big enough to fit a 9 frosted cake in Target) and tightly wrap it all in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foilWhen you defrost, simply put it out in the fridge so that it defrosts slowly.
That's an interesting questionI've frozen the actual cakes (sans frosting) and they were just as good when thawed, but I don't think I've ever frozen a frosted cake, although for some reason I have memories of my mother somehow managing to wrap it in plastic wrap Here's what I would try: clear out a space in your freezer where you can set the cake on a platePlace the cake in the freezer (nothing covering it) and check it in about 5-10 minutes, or however long it takes the frosting to hardenJust touch the cake lightly, and if frosting seems hard and it doesn't come off easily on your finger, take it out and quickly wrap it with plastic wrap (around the plate it's on, too), then put it right back in the freezerI assume that you already have a container that you'll be transporting the cake in, but if you don't then see if you can find something, maybe like those cardboard boxes that bakeries sell cakes inWhen it's time to take the cake out, unwrap the cake and place it in your containerDepending on when the luncheon is taking place, you may or may not want to keep it in a fridge until it's neededDon't leave it out too long, but refrigeration would obviously slow down the thawing process, so do what you think is best regarding that I hope all works out well, and that you get more advice on the matter (I'm just going by what I know)Best of luck, and I hope the cake tastes great)
