Honeywell round therm. does heat anticipator setting effect the cooling side?
no, only heat. Its a little heater built into the thermostat to make it turn off before it overshoots the temperature that it is set at. for example you have the heat set at 75 degrees, if the thermostat stops when it senses 75 degrees naturally it will be 76-77 before the furnace blower finally shuts down after recovering the residual heat from the heat exchanger so it actually turns the furnace off a little before it reaches 75 degrees.
To my knowlege the heat anticipator tells the furnace how long to run after the burners stop.In other words it uses up the heat left in the heat exchanger in order to be more efficent.
Ever been in a house where the heater comes on while you are asleep and it gets warm then warmer then hot as heck and still hotter and then it FINALLY shuts off? then it gets cool in the house ,colder, cold as heck, freezing cold and FINALLY the heater comes on? This is what would happen if your heat anticipator was not working on the thermostat. It senses that soon the room will be as warm as you wish but it does not OVERSHOOT the temperature desired and do the above mentioned. The heat anticipator can be set in 2 ways . You can get the amp draw value off of the Gas valve and set the thermostat or you can use a special meter on the low voltage controls to SEE how many amps the valve draws. The heat anticipator has nothing to do with the cooling portion of that thermostat.
No, the heat anticipator only affects heat. Don't mess with it though, the reset can be a pain.
