Question:

Hot water /steam boiler?

I just bought a house and it has a steam boiler. The owner told me that every two days they had to go downstairs and turn the valve to let more water in. I heard there is a way to hook up an electrical device to detect low levels and fill it with out me having to worry about this all the time. What is it called and what would the cost be? It is a crown boiler model JBF43SPD

Answer:

Watts Regulator Boiler feed valve model# s1156f About $50 and $200 labor.$200 in Parts give or take.
your best way to autofeed your boiler is to add a mcdonnell miller #47-2 auto feeder. this control incorporates a lowwater float which shots the boiler off in a lowwater condition and at the same time adds water to the preset water level. also this control you can flush the muddy water out where as the probe type devices must be removed yearly and cleaned costing you more money in the long run. You,ll be looking at 4-450 for the device and approx 2-250 to install. this is your best way to go these contrls last a long time 20-25 yrs compared to a probe which has not been in the domestic boilers long enough to actially know how long they will work
