Question:

How are cable cars constructed?

I was skiing on Boxing Day at Sierra Nevada, Spain and that set me wondering about the ski lifts. How is the cable put into position? Is it one continuous loop? (I never saw any joins)How is the cable brought to site? (Too heavy for road vehicles and helicopters, so is it spun on site from drums of smaller steel cable filaments?)How often do they need to replace it? All the ones I saw looked very new. Thanks in advance!

(I never saw any joins) I am not sure, but I believe that the cable is back spliced How is the cable brought to site? (Too heavy for road vehicles and helicopters, so is it spun on site from drums of smaller steel cable filaments?) No, I am sure it is brought in on a truckMaybe a super heavy load truckHow often do they need to replace it? All the ones I saw looked very new Not sure; suspect it depends on local conditions and maintenance
