You are better to buy a wireless adaptor for the pc, this way you do not put performance penalties on the laptopIf you really wish to use the laptop you need to use ICS, but connect the machines with a cross-over cable instead of the standard CAT5 cableUninstall any bridging you have set upUse the network wizards to set up the ics on the wireless laptop adaptor, then the connection from the desktopSet them both to the same workgroup name and set the second machine to connect via another computerYour problem is most likely the cable.
