Question:

How can I convert a photo to an embroidery file for my Janome 350E Sewing Machine?

I inherited a Janome 350E from my mom when she died recentlyI'm just learning how to use her embroidery machineI have a photo of her I'd like to digitize and use to embroider a picture of herI have all the Adobe creative suiteHow can I bridge the gap between a photo file and a file my Janome can recognize and respond to? BTW, I also have a Husquvarna that is an embroidery machine that I'd like to use.

Answer:

Knits are the absolute worst for embroideryHowever, it's possible that the design itself is digitized poorlyTry the design on tightly woven cotton with two layers of cut away stabilizerIf the design works there, hoop two layers of stabilizer and use an adhesive spray to secure the pocket in the hoopYou can also float additional stabilizer below the hoopJust slide it under before stitchingBut, when working with knits, you're actually embroidering the stabilizerThe knit will not hold up to the stitchesYou could also try a thicker embroidery threadAnd, be sure to use a good quality bobbin threadAnd, a titanium coated topstitch needle will generally produce better resultsWorst case, make the bobbin thread the same color as the top thread and no one will be able to tell the difference.
