Question:

How Can I Insulate My 2nd Floor Room ?

The room I am staying is on the 2nd floor and is very cold in the winterI live in Japan and here they dont have any central heatAll I have is a air heater, the same thing is uded for cooling in summer, in my roomThe problem is that even I heat the room it gets right away cold when I turn the heater offThe windwos are sliding windows from left to right and are very bad insulatedWould it make sense to buy some insulation rubber and install it arround the windows to preserve the heat for longerThe room is on the second floor and the room below is not heated so there is no heat coming from below that is another problem, the floar is a wood floor like typical in JapanI am living in a house so on top of me is just the addicI have 2 large sliding windows in this room so I am thinking to isolate these and then see from there if it gets betterCan anyone reccomend some good insulation technique ?

Here in America we have a few products to insulate windowsThe first is like you said buy some insulation rubber or here we have a substance like putty that you can put in all the cracks of the window but you can remove it wheneverThe second product we have here is a film like cerran wrap(clear plastic) that you put over your window which makes a seal between the plastic and windowThis stops cold drafts from coming inAlso if you can get in the attic you can add insulation over itOne thing that might make it more comfy for you is add a rugRugs and carpet usually add warmth to the roomIf your feet are warmer, your body is warmerAlso make sure that there are no cracks in the sealing Another place that warm air escapes is around light fixturesInsulate above and caulk around them to stop the air from going upOther then that I also recommend putting a thick shade on the windowClosing it at night can really add an insulating factor to the windowsHope this helps :)
