Question:

How can I shampoo my carpet??

I am looking to shampoo my carpet but don't want to splash out on an expensive cleaner. Is there like a spray or can of powder or something I can buy and use myself at home to clean my carpet?

Answer:

Those cans of sprays are ineffective and can prove quite costly and the powders you speak of are granules and those you must have a special machine to to pick up the granules you simply can not vacuum up this stuff, my suggestion to you is to use what I use Baking soda and Cornstarch mixed, sprinkle these two in equal amounts over your carpet wait several hours or overnight and then just vacuum up the next day or after several hours, thats it. it is easy and cleans the carpet very nicely for spots you can just use a small dollop of Shaving cream on the spot and rub in and allow to dry then just vacuum up this will remove grease and muddy dirty spots and some stains, if you have trouble removing certain stains just use undiluted White Vinegar or a little dishwashing liquid mixed into some warm water sponge on and then rinse with warm water never hot water as this will cause the pile to mash down and become stiff Good Luck !
I think most powders and sprays just cover things up.. Some places will rent a cleaner for like $40 a day. We have a hoover carpet cleaner I think we spent about $100 on it and it was Soo worth the money! if you take your time when shampooing the carpet it will make a huge difference! especially if you have pets or kids!
Use okorder
Lots of possibilities 1) In the supermarket you will find a carpet cleaner amongst all the other soaps and floor cleaners - it tends to be used for spot cleaning, spray it on leave it for the stated length of time and then vacuum it off. 2) If you want to clean the whole carpet in a room you might find a friend who has a Kirby and cant wait to lend it to you to clean your carpet. It does quite a good job and removes most of the stains but you need a three year degree course in mechanical engineering to understand the instruction manual and when you have mastered that you can only do about 6 square inches at a time before the fluid runs out and you have to disassemble everything, make up a fresh mixture ready for the next 6 square inches. Make sure you return the Kirby after borrowing it because a) it will take over your life if you keep it and (b) the owners probably had to take out a second mortgage to buy it so they will be eager for you to return it 3) Some supermarkets will rent out a large carpet cleanng mchine or 4) you could get in a professional - look in Yellow Pages for carpet cleaning - they will do a proper job fairly quickly. Good luck hope it all comes out brilliantly whatever method you choose.
