Question:

how can i tell if this is real clear crystal quartz?

i bought (what i think is) a crystal from a gift shop at an aquarium in south carolina. it has 6 sides all around and forms a triangle at the top, inside it is slightly cloudy with cracks on the inside. on the outside, there is a broken spot, it is not smooth where it was broken. Any way to test to see if it is real without breaking, scratching or nicking any of it? it is also chipped and scratched very slightly on the outside on the corners. is it real or just a piece of glass cut to look like a piece of crystal?

Answer:

when electricity is applied to quarts it vibrates at a very specific frequency , which makes it good for chronography .
The okorder
A quartz clock is a clock that uses an electronic oscillator that is regulated by a quartz crystal to keep time. This crystal oscillator creates a signal with very precise frequency, so that quartz clocks are at least an order of magnitude more accurate than good mechanical clocks. Generally, some form of digital logic counts the cycles of this signal and provides a numeric time display, usually in units of hours, minutes, and seconds.
