Question:

How do a get a dog in to car who does not jump yet?

He used to walk up a ramp in to his crate but now refuses. He is a 145# dog and I cannot lift him.

Answer:

Copper like gold is wroth money! Save it up and sell it! Aluminium is also wroth money.
You could get stairs or a ramp into the car for him. They make them for dogs that have arthritis.
Is he older now? It could easily be joint/arthritis issues. We have an older dog that has a hard time getting up into the car now. She can get her front paws up and we have to support her bottom and she jumps the rest of the way in. She has been checked by the vet and is on arthritis meds. You might want to have a vet check him out to make sure it isn't a health problem. After that, it might just be a new behavior problem. :) Good luck!
Have you noticed any other possible signs of joint pain? Like reluctance to climb stairs or slowing on stairs? Reluctance to do any jumping, difficulty getting up from the floor, etc.? Is the ramp smooth or is is coated or otherwise made slip-proof? In the meantime, you will either need two people or try this: Get him to put his front feet up into the car. Then lift his back end in.
