Is there a way to change the fuel pump without using a large car lift?
If you never changed a Fuel Pump, in a 2002 Saab 93, than I would not recommend you attempt to do so, unless you are mechanical inclined. You will also need a Fuel Pump (Cap Ring) Removal Tool, this tool is used to unlock the pump. You can use a screwdriver and a hammer, or make your cap ring removal tool. It can be a pain, take it from me, I done a few in the shop. There are two ways to remove the Fuel Pump. The Fuel Pump, is in the Fuel Tank. There's is no need to use a Car Lift, you need to prop-up the rear of the car, with Jack Stands, disconnect the Fuel Hoses - Drain The Tank - Remove The Tank Straps - Disconnect The Wiring Harness From The Sending Unit - drop and remove the Fuel Tank. The other way to remove the Fuel Pump, without dropping the Fuel Tank, is by removing the back seat, and making an Access Hole, with a pair of tin/metal snips. This procedure can be time consuming for the first timers, and I would not recommend it. Gavin R, yes there's already an Access Hole, underneath the rear seat, but the hole is to gain access to the Wiring Harness, and not the Fuel Pump. Again to gain access to the Fuel Pump, you'll have to cut-out an additional access hole. Of course that's if you choose not to Drop The Fuel Tank. Click on the link you see below, for complete 'Instructions, and Pictures of the procedure. Good Luck !
