Our dog peed on the bathroom rug while I was taking my brother somewhere and I have no idea what to do. Apparently it's made out of 100% polyester, and I can't put it in the washing machine because I have absolutely no clue how to use it.
Just hand wash it and air-dry it outside.

Depending on the size of the rug, you may want to consider taking the rug to a laundromat where you would have access to a large front loader washing machine. A top load machine may be to hard on the rug, especially if it is an oversize rug. Take some laundry detergent with you as well as a couple of quarters. You can air dry the rug when you get back home. Keep an eye on this pet or he/she may cause a lot of damage elsewhere in the home. Expensive damage.
