Question:

how do i copper plate at home?

i have some copper bars from car batteries that i cleaned up a long time ago and i am going to use them for copper plating but i don't know how to. could one of you tell me how

Answer:

Essentially there are two ways. immerse the metal to be plated i a solution of copper sulphate. Not all metals will take the copper. Another method is to use the copper bars ands a system of electrolysis. - get a battery and connect two wires to the two terminals. - put the copper bar and the other object in a container of water. The water should contain a small amount of some salt in order to conduct electrixcity. The object to be coated with copper should also be a electrical conductor, or you can coat it with a layer of graphite to make it conductive. - attach the two wires from the battery. One to the copper bar and the othert to the other object to be coated. - the wire from the negative terminal should be connected to the object and the positive wire connected to the copper bar. - when the current is flowing you will find that the copper atoms will migrate from the copper bar to the object and it will form a coating of copper on it.
